Active-guided UAV interceptor
Military technology is defined not by complexity, but by results. A system’s effectiveness is measured by its ability to engage targets at minimal cost and its scalability.
Kestrel is a UAV interceptor designed to meet these requirements. The system is intended to engage small aerial targets traveling at speeds of up to 100 m/s.
Despite its apparent simplicity, the design is based on engineering calculations: the geometry is optimized for strength and aerodynamic characteristics, stiffening elements reduce vibrations, and the parameters have been validated through testing.
In the terminal phase of flight, the target is captured by the homing head. The detonation initiation system operates in automatic mode. Detonation occurs upon reaching the target using a laser system.
The flight control system ensures high maneuverability. Additional control surfaces operate synchronously with the engines, allowing for sharp maneuvers with large turn angles.
The use of additive technologies reduces production time and lowers costs without significantly impacting performance. This enables rapid deployment of systems in the required quantities.
A software simulator has been developed to train operators, replicating control, flight, and interception processes in real time.
Kestrel is not a standalone product, but a comprehensive solution for intercepting air targets.
The homing head is designed as a separate module and can be integrated with various types of launchers and detection systems.
OPERATOR TRAINING SIMULATOR
A hardware-software model based on Matlab/Simulink, QGroundControl, and PX4 has been developed to train operators and refine control algorithms.
The model enables control of the interceptor at speeds of up to 100 m/s. Further development is aimed at achieving 120–150 m/s while maintaining controllability and maneuverability.
This approach allows for the implementation of a class of high-speed, electrically powered, controllable interceptors at a relatively low cost.
The software component is built on a modular principle and can be adapted for various platforms.
